Scholarship
Bio The goal of his current research is to study and test new ways of implementing JVM compilers for non-Java languages, using the creation of a JVM compiler for Perl as a case study. In the past, non-Java language compilers have been implemented in Java to take advantage of Java's close ties with the JVM architecture. Mr. Kuhn's work will investigate the possibilities of using Perl's already existing compiler back-end to compile Perl to JVM code. Java implementations for some small pieces of Perl may be used for speed, and we will evaluate the trade-offs in doing such implementations. In addition, Mr. Kuhn is also leading the project to create of a freely redistributable book, _Picking Up Perl_. This book is a tutorial for new Perl programmers.
