Renaissance

• We're in the middle of it

  • Two toolkits, competing desktop environments
  • Window managers, including some that are "Baroque"!
  • To my amazement, I can again use X to get my job done!

• Thanks to all who made it happen!

• Work on base X infrastructure must now revive

  • Design is 1988, we did well, but a lot has been learned!
  • Pay close attention to Keith Packard's work

• Lost cultural history

  • Both good - young turks don't know what can't be done!
  • and bad - Please go look at the literature, and talk to the gray beards; at least we did not burn the libraries, and most of us are above ground!
