We now provide an alternate viewpoint for studying the throughput versus average response time curves. Typically, at a low (resp. high) throughput one observes a low (resp. high) response time. Thus, there is a trade-off between the two quantities. [42] combined them into a single performance measure power that is defined as the ratio of throughput to average response time. The two plots in the middle column of Figure 6 display overall throughput versus power for the three algorithms. The visualization helps us observe the relative performance of the algorithms even at low load levels, where the throughput-response time plots may seem to overlap. In both configurations, the power of the storage controller with the SARC algorithm envelopes the power from the other algorithms.
