Optimal System Design
We used our probe-based storage model to
optimize design of MEMS devices for specific performance goals. We
used the range of values for each configurable parameter shown in
Table 1 to bound our search, with the exception
of the number of tips in per cluster. Because this parameter
has a negligible contribution to the transfer time when its value
is greater than 2, as can be seen from Figures 5b
and 6b, we
set it to the default value 10.
To find the optimal set of configurable parameters, we exhaustively
searched the entire range of the configurable parameter space to find
a set of values that optimized the given metric. We varied each
parameter by intervals of 1m for the movement range in both
and and 10 for the number of active tips.
