Dan Miller, NCR/Teradata

Abstract:

Our group is involved in a project which will allow the Teradata database to operate on a parallel system, in which each node runs the NT OS. In order to elucidate what we are trying to accomplish, we will clarify what we are not:

- we are not trying to run on an NT cluster
- we are not trying to create a distributed database

We are adding capabilities to NT, which will allow us to create a system out of a collection of nodes, linked by the bynet, our proprietary interconnect. We will attempt to minimize the changes to the database code by offering an interface toward the NT OS (we already have this layer for Unix).

Because of the very high level of sharing (and hence interlocking) on common data structures, our layer will consist of both user and driver level code.
