Abstract:

Our group is involved in a project, which will allow the Teradata database to operate on a parallel system, in which each node runs the NT operating system.

This parallel system will consist of a loosley coupled, shared-nothing architecture upon which individual nodes are connected via proprietary (bynet) network. This is not an NT cluster. Also, we are not trying to create a distributed database platform.

We are adding capabilities to NT, which will allow us to create a parallel system out of a collection of nodes, linked by the bynet. We will attempt to minimize the changes to the database code by offering a generic operating system interface. This layer is already available with Unix.

Because of the very high level of sharing (and hence interlocking) on common data structures within a given node, our layer will consist of both user and driver level code.
