Abstract:

This group is involved in a project, which will allow the Teradata database to operate on a parallel system, in which each node runs the NT OS. May be, that in order to elucidate what we try to accomplish, we should start by clarifying what we are not:

- we are not trying to run on an NT cluster
- we are not trying to create a distributed database

We are adding capabilities to NT, which will allow to create a system out of a collection of nodes, linked by the bynet, out proprietary interconnect. We try to keep the data base code unmodified, and offer a layer of interface toward a NT OS (we already have this layer for Unix). Because of the very high level of collision (and hence interlocking) on common data structures, our layer will consist of both user and driver level code.
