Abstract:
I am currently the Windows NT/95 Systems Administrator at New Mexico Tech. Our current project is the migration from Windows 3.11 for Networks to Windows 95. Included in this is password verification for Windows 95 through a UNIX password file, and mounting a UNIX file system through an SMB server for user accounts.
Verifying our Windows 95 Clients through a UNIX password file allows us to have a single password file and cuts down on management.
Mounting our UNIX file system allows us to consolidate files into one system. All files, for both users UNIX accounts and Windows accounts, are in one place, making backups easier, and making the system more understandable for users. This also allows for "roving profiles" and other things to be customized for the user.
Future projects include the implementation of Windows NT 5 Client and Server. Our reason for not migrating now is due to Windows NT 5's plans to use Kerberos. We are currently testing both Windows NT 5 Client and Server for implementation when final release is available.
