We evaluated the effects of our implementation of select() and ufalloc() on the performance of two event-driven Internet servers: the Squid proxy, and the thttpd [24] Web server (we used a modified version of thttpd with numerous performance improvements [18]). These experiments were performed using the same server and client systems describe in Section 3. We also measured the effect of our changes on the performance of Digital's Palo Alto proxies.
