Abstract:

In organizations, poorly designed security policies and non-usable security mechanisms can cause security friction that leads to a drop in productivity among employees. This friction can occur through different mechanisms, such as losing concentration, frustration, stress, or unwillingness to innovate. We conducted an online survey case study with n=182 employees at a German automotive supplier's site to understand how employees perceive friction. Here, we provide the survey and derive learnings, e.g., that employees can spot different forms of friction and that open-ended questions are suitable to uncover root causes for it.
