The Evolution of Information Assurance
Speaker: Dickie George, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory
This talk will discuss the change in assurance from the cold war of the '60s and '70s to today. The change in communications, the type of information targeted, and the emergence of new classes of adversaries force a huge change in assurance strategy. Mr. George will discuss the government’s threat/adversary model and the assurance models of the last century and this century, and will include some real-life stories that highlight the threat and response.
Dickie George currently serves as the Senior Advisor for Cyber Security at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. He provides security advice to leadership and the technical workforce, and currently works on a number of projects in support of the U.S. government. He joined the Lab in 2012, following a 41-year career at NSA, the last 8 years of which he served as Technical Director for the Information Assurance Directorate. At NSA, Dickie was a cryptomathematician and author of over 125 cryptanalytic papers.
