Up: A Persistent Snapshot Device
Previous: Abstract
An application such as a file system or a database stores data on a device. To
protect against loss of data, the device must be backed up regularly. But one
cannot keep the applications offline during large backup intervals. Backup
interval is typically large, because of slow devices like tape devices.
Down time is a critical problem as it translates into lost
business for sites like e-commerce sites.
